
Julia is an adult, paediatric and neonatal nurse who trained and worked as a practice educator at Great Ormond Street hospital being becoming a Senior Lecturer at City University, London, UK. There, she co-led the neonatal nursing education portfolio for 12 years before moving to University of Hertfordshire (UH) in 2013. Her current role is Associate Professor (learning and teaching) and Senior Lecturer Childrens nursing. Julia leads a range of pre-registration children’s nursing modules including curricula relating to research, communication and a neonatal care module. She is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds a National Teaching Fellowship award. Outside her role at UH, Julia is an external examiner for other higher education institutions. She has also recently worked clinically for the UK National Vaccination Programme. She is a newborn life support instructor for the UK Resuscitation Council, a Trustee of the UK Neonatal Nurses Association and A Board member / non-executive director for the Council of International Neonatal Nurses. She is also a mentor for neonatal educators in Africa and China, through the Project Hope charity. Julia has a range of book, chapter and article publications as both author and editor. Her various doctoral and post-doc research interests focus on parents’ premature birth experiences, supporting parents in the transition home, preparation for parenting through simulation dolls and exploring communication needs of neonates and their parents.
